When You Shift into Knowing with Your Heart
August 15, 2026Step into the mystical intersection of science and spirit with Crystal Cassidy, spiritual scientist and creator of SoulPod, as she joins Linda for an illuminating episode. Together, they delve into the nature of soul purpose, near-death experiences, and the inner technology that connects us to the divine.
In this episode, Crystal Cassidy shares her extraordinary journey from biotech researcher to spiritual explorer, revealing how direct experiences—particularly a life-changing near-death event—shifted her perspective on consciousness and healing. Her story is a testament to the powerful wisdom available when we pause, listen deeply, and trust that our soul already knows the way.
Here are three inspiring takeaways from their conversation:
🔹 Your Soul Knows the Path: When life’s purpose feels unclear, know that you are exactly where you need to be. Awakening and clarity often arise not from striving, but from stillness and surrender—a gentle remembering that your wholeness and purpose are already present within you.
🔹 Embrace the Spiritual Scientist Within: Crystal Cassidy invites us all to approach our mystical experiences with curious experimentation, blending ancient wisdom and scientific inquiry. Every meditation or mindful moment is a step on the spiral path of soul evolution.
🔹 Prepare for Breakthroughs with Foundation and Faith: Rather than chasing quick fixes, Crystal Cassidy encourages a daily practice and intention. Each small step—a meditation, a compassionate thought—invites the universe to meet you five steps further, supporting your spiritual growth and joyful unfolding.
Listen in to be inspired on your journey of soul realization, and discover how to honor both the mystery and the mastery within.

Crystal Cassidy:
My desire to stay wasn’t necessarily that I was afraid of death. It was that I was afraid of not completing what I came here to do in this lifetime.
Linda Lang:
Have you ever felt like you’re here for something important, but you can’t quite see what it is? Many people sense a deeper purpose yet struggle to trust the path when life feels uncertain. Today we’re exploring how awakening unfolds, why purpose often reveals itself through stillness rather than striving, and what one extraordinary near-death experience taught about consciousness, trust, and the guidance that’s available to all of us. My guest today is spiritual scientist Crystal Cassidy, a former biotech researcher who combines science, spirituality, and direct experience for deep spiritual exploration. Stay with us because in our conversation, Crystal shares the simple practice she believes prepares us for life’s biggest spiritual breakthroughs.
Announcer: Welcome to Exploring the Mystical Side of Life with your host, Linda Lang.
Linda Lang:
Hi, this is Linda Lang from www.ThoughtChange.com. We are Exploring the Mystical Side of Life once again this week. Welcome, Crystal.
Crystal Cassidy:
Thank you, Linda. Excited to be here today.
Linda Lang:
What is a spiritual scientist?
Crystal Cassidy:
The reason I like the term spiritual scientist is because it gives us some permission to explore, to experiment, to discover what spirituality, what consciousness, what the mystical experience means for each of us. And it kind of releases us from this expectation that it’s all been figured out and it’s all been discovered and known. And that’s certainly not the case. So I like the term scientist paired with spirituality, which you don’t see too often. But also for me personally, I come from the sciences. I studied biochemistry. I worked in oncology research and genomics. And that’s very much one side of me, the logical, the linear.
Crystal Cassidy:
I love my analytical mind. But it’s balanced and it needs to be balanced with the nonlinear experience, the other ways of knowing that are not just us looking down into the petri dish and trying to take ourselves out of the equation, but remembering that we can’t take ourselves out of the equation. We are a part of the whole system.
Linda Lang:
And with that scientific background, how did your pull into spiritual exploration manifest?
Crystal Cassidy:
Good question. I think it manifested from having direct experiences in meditation. I started meditating when I was 12, so pretty, pretty young, through martial arts. And on and off, you know, you lose it for a few years, but it really did become a cornerstone of my life. And I didn’t realize until later what a gift that was. But I did start to have experiences directly, nonlinear mystical experiences, and Kundalini awakening being one of them, that I couldn’t explain. And so the scientist in me was like, “Okay, if I’m perceiving ghosts or disembodied consciousness all of a sudden, is it a figment of my imagination? Am I having some sort of cerebral event? Or is there something going on?” So I think for me, I felt pretty confident that I wasn’t going crazy. And so what does that mean? And that’s when I dove into theories of consciousness, understanding quantum physics a bit more deeply.
And so it really ignited a deep curiosity. And once that veil kind of opens, once you see behind the curtain the first time, there is no going back. You are forever changed. You can’t unsee what you’ve seen or experienced. And so for me, that really accelerated, once I had those experiences.
Linda Lang:
And you had a near-death experience that must have shifted your understanding of consciousness too.
Crystal Cassidy:
Absolutely. Yeah, a very long story. But in 2020, you can imagine what was going on on the planet. But I was very early on in February, early March, got sick, ended up in the hospital in quarantine. My husband couldn’t come with me, and I’m on the phone with all of my amazing physician friends, head of medical institutions. And I had this moment that I realized, ooh, this science side, the logical side isn’t gonna be what gets me through this here. There was so much unknown at that point.
They didn’t know whether if they gave you ibuprofen, they were gonna kill you or it was gonna help. And it was the most stripped-bare experience that I’ve ever been in. And I knew that my body was failing. And interestingly, I had a premonition about it. I was in a meditation intensive training, and I started having these meditations. I could see something was coming, and it was karmic for me. It was tied to other lifetimes. I know that sounds— that’s, that’s pretty out there, but I could feel it before it happened.
Linda Lang:
Can I just say, Crystal, we are Exploring the Mystical Side of Life…
Crystal Cassidy:
Okay.
Linda Lang:
So it’s not too far out there.
Crystal Cassidy:
Okay. It’s not too far out there. Okay, great. So I started perceiving past lifetimes and the turmoil that was going on, which I think are, they’re simultaneous lifetimes. And there was one particular lifetime that was tied to what I was going to be going through, and it was a dark night of the soul. This other lifetime had both war and pandemic at the same time. He’d lost his family. And I could feel, I could feel him across space and time.
And I knew the work I was doing now was affecting that lifetime. And the work he was doing was affecting mine. It was really fascinating. But when you’re, you’re in that liminal space, all of these barriers of time and space really break down. And the other thing I’ll mention about that is I knew when death was in my space. And it was so interesting to me that it felt like an old friend that showed up at your door, but you weren’t expecting. You know, it was a familiar feeling of like, “Ooh, I remember you.” And so I’ve, I’ve talked to other people who’ve had that kind of experience and a similar feeling.
And I didn’t go into the light, but I had moments of surrender where I was in and out of my body. And one of those moments when I surrendered, and it was kind of all at once, and it wasn’t conscious, it just kind of happened. I just let it all go. I was like, I can’t do this. I can’t keep up the fight. I want to be here. I intend to be here. But I could feel that there was an exit point in this lifetime.
It took me a long time to integrate and come back into my body, but my desire to stay wasn’t necessarily that I was afraid of death. It was that I was afraid of not completing what I came here to do in this lifetime. That’s what ended up keeping me in my body. And I also had, in that moment of surrender, of giving up the suffering, and simultaneously something within me reached out for help. And immediately, I still get tingles when I talk about it…. Immediately there was a response and there was a presence. And I started to feel this presence, this intelligence, this loving intelligence start to activate my system one energy center at a time, specifically the root, the first center, the space between my eyes. So my 6th center.
And then my heart, it was like bing, bing, bing. And I was all of a sudden fully in my body and I knew I was gonna be okay. And so there were other experiences through that, but one of them being time travel, going back into that time for my future self through a meditation that I had about a year ago, 4 hours of meditation. And I traveled back to that time where I was very sick. Where I realized or felt there was a presence in the room and it was so peaceful. And I never understood that moment until like 4 or 5 years later, because that was me that was standing in the astral with myself when I was very weak and scared. And so that really blew my mind that in that experience, the presence that was there was actually my future self.
Linda Lang:
Yeah, beautiful, beautiful. I’ve had an experience of meeting my future self coming back to, I would say, a younger me, this lifetime younger me, to change something in my DNA. So I understand how mind-blowing it is.
Crystal Cassidy:
Mind-blowing.
Linda Lang:
Mind-blowing, because it is not linear. This is not a linear world.
Crystal Cassidy:
It really isn’t. Yeah.
Linda Lang:
So obviously this experience, very powerful, very powerful, gave me goosebumps. It must have shifted your intention or your attention to your life. It must have changed things for you.
Crystal Cassidy:
Yeah, it did. And I’m sure in your case too, it just changes things, right? And nothing’s really the same, nor would you want it to be. But I would say that the biggest thing it changed was clarity for me. You know, before that, I was kind of in this in-between state. I had been in biotech. I love my biotech community and that experience. And I knew that I was also complete with it, which didn’t make any sense because I’d had some pretty great success there. So on paper, it made a lot more sense to stay in that space and continue to do that work.
And I had been confused about what’s next. But through that experience, what became very clear to me is that we are so much more powerful and quite literally interdimensional. That’s where my passion and my curiosity and my interest. And so I made an agreement with myself that my number one goal in this life intention is my own soul realization. How much of my soul can I bring into this space and time? And secondary to that is to help others along that path of realizing their interdimensionality. Like, that’s just what gets my juices going at this point. And so that clarity— I didn’t know the how or, you know, the when and all that, but I felt very clear afterwards, after seeing behind the curtain a bit. I was like, oh man, we’re walking around on this planet and we have no idea how powerful we are and that we have this innate technology.
And I really do believe it’s a technology, blows AI out of the water, that we as a species just don’t realize yet. And ancient traditions have pointed to this for thousands of years, but it’s not yet been realized at a global scale. And so I think that’s where things are going.
Linda Lang:
The ancients would teach how life is circular, but it would be up a level, up a level, up a level, spiraling upwards.
Crystal Cassidy:
Spiral, yeah.
Linda Lang:
I can certainly see how stepping into that wisdom again would bring totally, totally new perspectives on life, not just a repeat of the old way of interpreting life, but because we’re up a level or 2 levels, however many levels, the perspective would be quite different.
Crystal Cassidy:
Yeah, I think so. I think the way that we awaken, that’s why I like the term “spiritual scientist.” And I really adore one of my teachers is a 3rd generation yogi. And he talks about, you know, the need for new framing, new context, new ways, new exploration, even to continue this journey for our species, and also recognizing, balancing, appreciating, and honoring where this knowledge has come from through the ages. But there’s a both/and that’s needed to recognize and honor and to continue to explore and create and expand. And yeah, like you said, I really do, I agree with you. I think it is a spiral. We’re coming around and around and around and having higher perspectives on the same thing and integrating that and expanding from there. It’s very exciting.
Linda Lang:
Now, using the term technology, a lot of people would think that means something concrete or physical that you could put your hands onto, but this is something that is innate within us. Correct? Explain that a little bit for us.
Crystal Cassidy:
I think of it as technology because it is innate. We have this system, it’s kind of in a powered-down state, and for good reason. I really do believe the reason that we don’t just come into the physical — some people do, a few people do, but most of us don’t come in with the central channel fully activated and the Kundalini moving because it takes some training wheels, it takes some growth. And so I view that as very intelligently designed that we’re protected. And I think of the Kundalini, or the central channel, as having this dam at the very base of the spine, and it’s there for our protection. It’s there until we’re ready to really move that energy.
And it’s always moving. It’s not that it’s not moving, but there is another level of energy that can be accessed, this expansion of your physical and metaphysical experience. So I do think it is physical in some ways. These energy centers that the ancients talk about are very real. And it’s just until you have your own personal experience with it. Once those start to wake up, the body is involved. The body does come along. The energy centers are like a bridge between the physical and the non-physical.
And when that starts to activate and turn on — like, there is a power-on button, you just got to know how to press it, and it’s through the heart, the heart space, really — but when that starts to come on, you’re experiencing more and more consciousness. The aperture I love the term aperture because it’s allowing more light in. That starts to open and expand. And once that dam loosens and that energy starts to flow and you start to have control, or intention rather, over how that system is flowing and you can start to direct it, that seems to me very much like a technology. I think there will come a time when we start to look at this as not even mystical, even though it is, but as a very real component of our interdimensionality.
Linda Lang:
You made me smile when you used the word control and then corrected it as intention. It isn’t really something we can control, at least at this state of our growth. We can’t really control an enlightenment experience, when or how it will manifest. And some people focus their whole life and never really get that level of, let’s say, mystical connection. And then there are other people who seemingly don’t do anything, but all of a sudden have an awakening. And that shifts their life. Let’s talk a little bit about the soul’s plan for the human experience and how that weaves into what we’re shifting.
Crystal Cassidy:
Very much so right now. I think we can all feel it. We’ve never been as connected as we are now. For better and worse, there’s challenges to that. And then there’s huge opportunities because of that. The soul’s plan for the human experience, from my view, is that it’s just experience. That’s it. There is no good or bad.
There is no judgment. Certainly. Judgment, even the smallest, when I’m moving this energy and I’m in my practice and I’m intentionally directing it, the number one thing I learned early on is that judgment throws it off. Like when the energy met my solar plexus, it excites all those nerves in that area. And so you get nauseous, or you can get nauseous. And so if I start to judge that nausea, that experience, I start to get disconnected. I start to fragment my energy. And so it goes very, very simply down into how judgment affects experience.
And obviously it goes really, really high up too. So I think we’re here to experience. I also think that there is a natural momentum. So there is no good or bad, there’s just balance. Karma is just a balance sheet. It’s finding your way into understanding wholeness. And so there is this natural momentum because the soul is a slight condensation of Source, right? There’s all these levels, like you were talking about the spiral. There’s all these kind of levels where Source has condensed itself to understand itself.
And so Soul is one of those levels. So there is a natural momentum in, from my perspective, back to Source, back to wholeness. So from a human experience standpoint, which is all happening now, your soul has fragmented or fractaled into many different incarnations, all in the now, to experience and to find balance and to understand wholeness. And then it comes back together, and then it comes back together, and then it comes back together. So that’s how I see it.
Linda Lang:
I think we’re in agreement. I would also add comparison is a form of judgment, really.
Crystal Cassidy:
Absolutely.
Linda Lang:
So, Crystal, we can’t really push the button for when to have an enlightenment or awakening experience, but in the meantime, until that happens for us, how can we start embracing a more multidimensional sense of self?
Crystal Cassidy:
I love your questions, Linda. It’s such a great question. Yeah, I think you are right. The enlightenment, which is — it’s only one step. That moment of the light coming in is not the endpoint. It’s forever unfolding. I like to remind myself as well that even Buddha and Jesus and all of these— Babaji, all these amazing figures— they had this moment of enlightenment, yes, but that wasn’t the end of their experience. They’re still very much in our experience too. That’s how we connect to them.
But they’re in other realms now of experience. But in the meantime, I think intention is the biggest component, and willingness. One of my friends that I respect dearly and love and adore, she told me one day, she said, “Crystal, you know, I don’t think, I don’t think I’m meant to enlighten in this lifetime.” And I think she was waiting for some judgment or for me to say, you know, got to meditate, you got to do things. And I was like, “That’s an amazing awareness that you have, that you’re here to experience other things and it’s not a part of your intention. And that’s okay because it’s all happening, it’s all already done.” So how you get there, you know, I think it’s a lot more fun to become nonlinear, but that’s my experience, that’s my desire, that’s my intention. But yoga, The Art of Union, and these other practices, meditation and breathwork, these are all intentional practices to help you lie the foundation down so that you are ready for the expansive event.
And I think that’s why, for me, my Kundalini awakening, or central channel activation if you don’t want to use that term, it was in a normal 20-minute meditation. that I had been doing for years. And it was an ordinary day, and it was a very big event, don’t get me wrong. I fractaled into everything and felt presence in a way I’d never had before, but it didn’t throw me off physically. It didn’t take me to the ground, which you do hear about. The intensity of the experience I was able to move through, and I think that it’s because I was laying that foundation in the years beforehand. When that central channel starts to come on and you start to become more nonlinear, everything in your life changes. So I learned that whenever my central channel started moving, I was like, “Okay, Cryastal, the next 2 weeks, just hang tight because life is going to change a bit.”
And every single time that was the case. So for those of you that do have that big, all the way up into the third eye, intense physical experience or activation, which I’m… what am I? Struggling to find the words for this one… When you see offerings of like activations, I caution you and also understand the desire to have them, but it’s not about that one event. It’s about what opens up for you on the way to that event. And then the integration after, that’s only the beginning. That’s, that’s only the beginning. So I’m a big proponent of laying that foundation down, and that’s why I do what I do.
Linda Lang:
You’re right. There is a lot of fear in many people’s perspective about spiritual power, Kundalini awakening, expanded states that maybe they don’t understand and that will rock their idea of reality. So how can we approach spirituality in maybe a more grounded way? Like, because you had laid the foundation, it was maybe easier for you to navigate.
Crystal Cassidy:
Yeah, I think so. And I think that part of the spiritual awakening process is developing a relationship with the unknown. That mystical, unknown, nonlinear experience, you can’t plan for it or else it would be the known, right? So that’s not what our brains are wired for. We’re wired for the known so we can predict the future. And so that’s one of the things that you start to really work on in meditation is to let go of the analytical mind. To get more familiar with the nature of your thoughts, to start to notice the awareness that sits behind and in between them, and to start to welcome more of that into your experience. So starting small is really going big, but the small is the big, the big is the small, as below is above. You know, we all know those sayings.
So I encourage people to remember that that small step is a huge step. It doesn’t need to be this grand, wild workshop or activation, although there are moments in my life where that acceleration is appropriate and was helpful. But the real opportunity, because it’s your own experience, you become the spiritual scientist. You start to be able to craft your own awakening process because you’re connecting with that source, with the field. And so all that information of the ages, of the ancients, it is in that field and it is accessible to you. It’s just clearing out the analytical mind so that you can tap into it, you can hear it, you can receive it. And so one step towards the universe, the mystical source, God, whatever you want to call it, and it steps 5 steps towards you. So that’s another thing I tell myself in my meditation.
I made it to my cushion today. The Universe is going to meet me more than halfway. That’s just me taking the step. And so I think that’s the biggest thing is just taking the step. And daily practice, I mean, there’s just nothing better than the daily practice. That’s, that’s how you’ll— enter and experience and expand in these ways.
Linda Lang:
I love how you flip that in your mind so that it becomes a motivating force for you. If you just take that one little step, how supported you’ll be by Spirit.
Crystal Cassidy:
Oh yeah.
Linda Lang:
I also love the fact that you had this huge awakening in just your regular, ordinary, everyday meditation. It’s again an example of how that awakening moment can come anytime, not when you expect it. How many times have you expected some, some huge spiritual epiphany and didn’t get it? But maybe you got it while you were dusting or doing your dishes or some very mundane thing. But that’s where the space was that it could actually land.
Crystal Cassidy:
That’s beautifully put. Yeah. And that, that morning practice is that space that you’re just inviting it in. And it will meet you.
Linda Lang:
There are so many people right now, Crystal, that feel like they’re here for a specific reason, a specific purpose. And maybe they don’t know what that purpose is. Maybe they’re searching, right? They’re searching. What kind of guidance would you give those people who really sense, they really sense that there is a purpose why they’re, they’re here?
Crystal Cassidy:
I can empathize with that deeply. And I think there are many of us that came into this incarnation in this time. It’s no mistake that we’re all here together. We did come with a purpose, with something that we wanted to experience from the perspective of soul. And that feeling that you have, that you’re like, ooh, I’m meant for something, like you get a little energy through your system. It’s important to pay attention to that. And again, I’m going to go back to the simple is the big. And when you create that stillness in your life, for me, it’s a non-negotiable hour and a half in my morning that allows me the space to really hear those whispers of my purpose, of my soul.
And I believe that to be more informative than any brainstorming exercise that you’ll do, although helpful through the analytical mind. I think that your soul will start to speak to you. And it will start to direct you and organize you. And you’re a vessel for that purpose. Use me, use me for my purpose in a way that delights my mind, body, and spirit. And setting that intention out in your day, I think, really starts to move the needle. And to also realize and really embody the knowing that you are whole and complete as you are right now. There’s nothing you need to do ’cause you’ve already done it.
Time is a construct, so it’s all already done, but have some fun along the way. Enjoy life along the way. Enjoy that creative process ’cause that’s why we’re here in this human incarnation. But to also remember that wholeness, your holiness, because that is also tied to your purpose. The more that you access that, the more whole that you feel and realize that you really are, it never left you, then the more your purpose comes into, into clarity, into view.
Linda Lang:
I think too, once we step onto the path, sometimes we get tripped up. By trusting, trusting the path and that how it’s unfolding is perfect.
Crystal Cassidy:
Yeah. The faith part. You know, when I was healing from the near-death experience, my mantra, my affirmation was “faith over fear.” Faith over fear. And it was just super simple, and it was clear enough that I could easily come back to it through a very challenging time. So you could perceive that as like getting thrown off the course, but I was really being realigned and rewired. And that can be challenging. And I think sometimes people think that when we say faith or trust, it means apathy.
And It really doesn’t. It means that you have a relationship with life as a whole. You understand, or seeking to understand, that everything truly is connected. And so if everything is truly connected, then that loving intelligence — love being that kind of foundational remembering of that connection — then it’s almost difficult to not have faith and trust. But when we talk about in the context of action, because I’m big on action, I’m like, you’ve got to take big action in your life. The difference is you’re taking that action from a place of alignment and faith and connection. Then that action that you take is absolutely in the direction of your purpose.
Linda Lang:
And for anyone who feels they might be out of alignment, going back to that center, spending time in meditation. That’s a trick, right?
Crystal Cassidy:
Oh yeah. And I know I’m harping on it, but it really is the trick. It’s the cheat code.
Linda Lang:
And it’s a thing people don’t necessarily want to do, right?
Crystal Cassidy:
Yeah. Yeah. We want the hacks. We want the quick activation. We want the immediate immediacy. And that, in my experience, is not necessarily the way it works. But you also wouldn’t want it to work that way, because this relationship that you’re building with yourself and like discovering yourself to be multi-sensory beyond the human senses, you don’t want to rush that. I have some interdimensional guides, and I had one day where I was like, it’s not going fast enough.
Like, I want to get from here to there, and I don’t know what I’m doing, and I’m overwhelmed. And they were just like, if you knew how much fun your soul is having witnessing and experiencing this, why would you rush it? You know? And I was— oh, I still get chills. I was like, “Oh my gosh, you’re right. I’m having the time of my life discovering this and expanding into it and meeting the right people at the right times.” I mean, gosh, like, this is what it’s all about. So why would you want that that kind of immediate gratification? That is just not why we’re here.
Linda Lang:
So true. So true. And we also, I think, need to consider the physicality of the human body because some of these really high levels of spiritual energy, your body needs time to adjust and integrate.
Crystal Cassidy:
Oh yeah. It’s interesting you mentioned that because I’m actually physically going through an adjustment right now. Because I had a pretty massive expansion. And so my body needs some rest, it needs some time. You know, this makes a lot of sense to me. You start to access more consciousness, more energy, more interdimensionality, and the physical body is in this space and time. And so it needs space and time then to catch up with you. And so part of my agreement, part of my relationship with my body is if it starts speaking to me, I listen.
I’m like, “Okay, what do you need? What do you need now?” And sometimes I’m not good at this and other times I’m better at it. But, you know, it’s like, I need some rest. I need more hydration. I need to actually have less food or more food. And so I’m constantly listening to the physical body so that it can find its homeostasis, especially in times of great change. So that absolutely the body does come along for the ride.
Linda Lang:
It’s a collaboration between the mind and the body and, of course, the spirit.
Crystal Cassidy:
Yes.
Linda Lang:
Crystal, it’s been delightful having this conversation with you. Before we wrap up, let’s talk a little bit about your meditation app.
Crystal Cassidy:
SoulPod. Yes. So SoulPod came out of the years after my, my near-death experience. It’s the platform that I wish that I had. It’s different from other platforms in that we go a bit beyond mindfulness and some of the more philosophical foundations, and we balance it with the science. ‘Cause I love the science, but you’ll also find that we don’t negate the mystical, the nonlinear experience, and we really honor it as an important part of the spiritual awakening journey. And so you’ll find in SoulPod that everything’s journey-based. It’s all intentional.
Each day builds upon the other. It’s personalized. And we have community that also travels alongside you, depending on where you’re at in your journey and where others are at in their journey. So it’s a really beautiful space for connecting with other human beings, other seekers, and for awakening. And it’s everything that I know about that experience. Technology that heals. That’s what we’re about.
Linda Lang:
Crystal, where can we send people who want to know more?
Crystal Cassidy:
You can find us at soulpodapp.com. You can find us on the iOS App Store. We’re working on Android. And you can find us on Instagram as well, SoulPodApp.
Linda Lang:
Perfect, perfect. Thank you so much for being my guest.
Crystal Cassidy:
Thank you, Linda. This was a joy.
