The Hidden Reality of Mediumship
October 30, 2026Step into the mystical realm of intuition and soul-guided living with spiritual teacher Jeffrey Allen on this episode of Exploring the Mystical Side of Life.
Have you ever wondered if that inner whisper is true intuition or just fear in disguise? Join us for a heart-opening conversation as Jeffrey Allen shares wisdom distilled from decades of teaching energy healing and spiritual development. Uncover how you can tune into genuine guidance, release self-judgment, and find joy in your spiritual gifts and path.
Here are three bright takeaways you’ll discover:
🔹 Intuition Speaks with Kindness, Not Judgment
Jeffrey Allen reveals that real intuitive guidance never comes from criticism or pressure, but from love, compassion, and support. When your guidance sounds like you “should” or “must,” that’s likely just your mind or old programming—true intuition feels light, gentle, and expansive.
🔹 Embrace the “Gray Area”
Intuition doesn’t always offer a black-and-white answer. Sometimes the most honest guidance is “not clear right now,” inviting you to honor the present moment and trust in the evolving journey. Jeffrey Allen’s own experience in relationships highlights the wisdom in accepting uncertainty and being gentle with yourself during transitions.
🔹 Your Intuition Speaks Your Language
Whether you receive guidance through feelings, symbols, numbers, or words, honor your unique way of connecting. Practice with curiosity and playfulness—try tuning in with simple, uncharged questions to build confidence and clarity.
Let Jeffrey Allen’s practical exercises and soulful advice inspire you to love who you are, trust your inner compass, and grow beyond comparison and judgment.

Jeffrey Allen:
Many years ago I was dating, and I remember tuning in and like, is this relationship right for me? One day it’s a big yes. Maybe a couple days later, is this relationship right for me? It’s a big no. Few days later, yes, no, yes, no. And I was like, okay, it feels like my intuition is broken. But the insight I had was, oh no, actually what I’m getting is I’m getting a very clear, honest answer that, right now, it’s not clear if this relationship is right for me or not. I’m still sorting that out. It’s not that it should be a yes or it should be a no. Sometimes we’re in between. Oh, my intuition wasn’t broken. I just didn’t understand what it was telling me because I wanted it to be black or white.
Linda Lang:
Have you ever had a feeling you thought was intuition but wondered if it was really guidance? Maybe it was actually fear, doubt, or something you believed you were supposed to do. Today, Mindvalley author, teacher, and healer Jeffrey Allen joins us to explore how to tell the difference between intuition and the voice of the mind, what happens when your intuition doesn’t give you a clear yes or no, and why we sometimes misunderstand what we receive. Stay tuned for a deep dive into intuition.
Announcer:
Welcome to Exploring the Mystical Side of Life with your host, Linda Lang.
Linda Lang:
Welcome, Jeffrey.
Jeffrey Allen:
Hi, Linda. Good to be here. So nice to see you.
Linda Lang:
You have been teaching energy, energy healing, intuition, spiritual development for decades. Yeah. Decades. So there’s a lot of wisdom in there.
Jeffrey Allen:
Thank you. Yeah, I hope so. The more we practice something, the wisdom seeps in, in between our thoughts and beliefs. The wisdom sort of builds up. So it’s, it’s, uh, one nice thing about getting older, actually.
Linda Lang:
One of the things I’ve noticed is that the more I know, the more I know that I don’t know. I wonder if you find that as well.
Jeffrey Allen:
Yeah, I think that’s a good thing. I think it’s natural, like, as we expand to run into people that are, you know, a step ahead of us in some way or have a different kind of expertise we haven’t learned yet, or we just discovered that, oh, that thing I thought I was really good at, there’s actually more room to grow there. Like, we discover that wisdom comes in, we discover like, I, I’m kind of surprised, but I think I’ve been fooling myself a little bit. Like, I thought I had this, this nailed, and now I realize, oh, I can get a lot deeper. You know, it’s, it’s humbling, but it’s also exciting because then life continues. You know, that feeling of growing and expanding can continue, which I think we all really, really love.
Linda Lang:
What I love about what you just said, Jeffrey, is how kind your self-talk was with all those situations that you just shared? Because so many people would be hard on themselves or critical or beat themselves up for not being that step ahead or not being the full expression of whatever they had tapped into. How do you get to that place where you can be so kind and compassionate to yourself?
Jeffrey Allen:
Yeah, I think— Yeah, thank you. That’s a really big compliment, actually. Thank you, Linda. The, um, for me, I think it’s come by just letting my analytical part of me turn down. It’s actually my wife, Hisami, we’ve been married for almost coming up on 17 years, so quite a while now. And she’s very different from me where I’m, I’m very analytical. I come from like a mathematics and computer science background and, and, uh, and I’ve gone really deep into spiritual studies and teaching. You know, my analytical part is, is both wonderful but also can get in the way.
It just in the way you said, like something happens, we automatically— That part of us compares us to other people. It’s like, oh, I see this person up here. Why am I not there yet? Or somebody is having this beautiful spiritual awakening. Why haven’t I had it yet? Or, you know, there’s— It’s just natural. That’s, that’s what that part of the brain does. But my, my wife doesn’t really have that part. She’s, she’s always in the other mind, in the spirit mind, where it’s just seeing the big picture, seeing things from love, compassion, not judgment. And it, uh, it took a while for me to even understand because I was so, I’d say, like, versed in this world of thinking and analyzing and, and sorting and judging.
It took me a while to even understand that she wasn’t judging me. Because when she saw something, she would just say it plainly. She’d say, Oh, I noticed this thing that you’re doing, or I noticed that you’ve been feeling this way. And that initially it felt like a little bit of shock, like, uh, oh, maybe she doesn’t like that, or she’s judging me. And she learned pretty quickly to, to preface everything with, now remember, I’m not saying that you’re bad. I’m just noticing something, and I’m telling you because I’m excited about energy work and consciousness, and I, I see your energy, and I would want to know if, if I had a little blind spot. I would want somebody to kind of like peel the curtain back and tell me. That’s, that’s exciting, right?
And so after, after I kind of got that about her, like, “Oh, she’s not judging me. She married me, we’re still together, she obviously likes me, right?” Once the insecurities died down, then it was easy to kind of start to match her in that space and say, oh wow, that’s— If I can, if I can see myself the way that she sees me, if I can see others the way that, you know, without judgment, life really changes. It’s just so powerful. It’s just if you could learn one thing, I would say getting out of comparison, getting out of judgment, that makes life so much more fun and enjoyable.
Linda Lang:
I had this amazing message that came through several years ago about comparison, and it was a really strong message. I think they actually used the word blasphemed. The energy of comparison was meant to be like Wow, look what Jeffrey can do. I wonder what I can do. Not, wow, look what Jeffrey can do. I mean, he’s so much better, right? I mean, totally different.
Jeffrey Allen:
Completely different. Yeah. I’m not sure how we got to this state where we’re always trying to be one up or one down, but it’s, um, it doesn’t do anything other than just make us, uh, agitated and not feeling good. Because of course, if you look around, everybody’s different. If there’s like 100 people in the room, any one of them, you could sit down and find something that they really shine at that you’d like to, you know, that you can aspire to or even just admire without aspiring to say, wow, they’re really great at that. I’m really great at these things. That’s cool too. Like, all of us have this really beautiful specialty that we share with the world, this uniqueness that’s us.
And if I’ve heard other people say it too, you know, if you don’t do you, who will? Yeah. Right? So it’s like that, that’s, that inspired me, like, oh, just be myself. Oh, that’s, that’s actually enough. Not even enough. That’s, that’s fantastic. That’s, that’s what I’m here to do.
Linda Lang:
Really goes to show you how your mind can kind of twist things and take you on a totally different paradigm.
Jeffrey Allen:
Yeah.
Linda Lang:
I’ve seen that so many times on my spiritual path where people really have a hard time Discerning their intuition or their skill levels, their what’s for them and what isn’t for them kind of resonance thing. And I’m just curious if you have any tips on how people can really tap in to understand that. And let me just qualify that, Jeffrey, because I see that in new people on the spiritual path and people who’ve been a long time on the spiritual path that, you know, sometimes what they think is intuition isn’t, and sometimes what they think isn’t intuition is.
Jeffrey Allen:
Yeah, that’s really good. So I would say a couple tips. So one is, if you— People have the same question about guidance when they’re saying, oh, I’m wanting to talk to spiritual guides, or wanting to tune in and maybe talk to angels. You know, this is the same as intuition in this regard. And what you want to know is that if something’s coming from within you, it’s truly your own intuition. It’s coming from love. So it’s coming from a perspective of helping you. Just like I said, my wife, you know, Hisami, was— She was telling me about me, sharing something from love to help me move into like a smoother, easier way of living.
So your guidance within is going to sound like this. So if, if you feel like you’re getting guidance that says you really need to step up, you need to stop doing that thing, you need to go over here and do that, that’s not your intuition. That’s not your spirit guides. That’s, that’s your mind. That’s your belief system. That’s the program that we learned growing up, you know, taking tests in school and getting scored and, you know, all of this. That’s, that’s that system that’s in you. And so you want to just acknowledge it when it comes up to say, oh, I, yeah, I know I have that perspective and all those things sound good, but let’s put that aside for a moment.
What’s underneath? What makes me smile? What makes me happy? And then like tune in again. And if again you get something that’s, you need to be more, you need to be less, just say, okay, I’m just going to put that aside for a minute. Give me one more thing. You know, just keep asking your intuition or your guides, whoever you’re tuning into. Give me one more thing. And that’s an easy way to kind of sort through that initial wave of either anxiety or insecurities that we have, is to just let them come up. If you resist it, that’s— That doesn’t help either. But if you let it come up, let that mind have its voice, have its say, eventually it’ll feel appeased and quiet down.
And then you’ll start to notice different messages coming up. And for me, especially when I was working a lot with spirit guides, the message was always very simple, but also super powerful. You know, like one that comes to mind that, you know, from our conversation here, Linda, is there was one time in Sedona, I was meditating. Back then, it was kind of a morning practice that I did. I talked to different, different guides and tuned in and, and I got this message. Oh, I want you to love who you are. So just really, really simple, a few words. And so for a week, I was really focused on that and noticing all the places where I didn’t feel like I was loving who I am.
And, and I worked through that. And after a week, you know, I was… I was young and ambitious. I thought in a week, maybe I got it nailed, right? And so, so I came back and like, “I think I got it.” You know, I spent a whole week working on this and I feel like now I love myself. I love who I am. And then what I heard next was, “Great. Now love who you were.” And I was like, “Ah, got it.”
What I was thinking of as love was actually me saying I’m better now than I was before. The old me was ABC, XYZ, and now I don’t do these things. The new me is shinier, better, and so on. I was taking this judgment as love. I was saying, “Oh, I’m, I’m better now than I was before, so I must, you know, now I love myself.” And once I could see that, just those few words, I saw that it’s like, right… This, this is different. That one I didn’t come back a week later. That one took quite a while.
But I just over time started noticing, oh, when am I, when am I doing that? When am I using this comparison even with myself? And, uh, eventually landed in a place. I think it was, I was still in Sedona, so it must have been within a couple of years. I remember in a kind of coming full circle, it was New Year’s, and I like to sit down, spend a little time meditating, kind of reflect on where I was last year. And what I noticed was, looking back a year ago, at that time I thought, oh, I’m kind of laughing a little bit at myself, kind of chuckling at who I was and the things that were really important to me, because now I’ve changed and I don’t feel those same things are true. But here’s the change is I know next year I’ll be the same way.
Next year, I’ll be sitting here looking back at this year, just smiling at myself at the places that have changed this last year. So, and I thought, oh, wow, that’s beautiful. Like, I hope every year I can look back and smile at who I was with love, not judgment, and that, that’ll keep going, not the belief that I’m going to eventually get there and don’t need to grow anymore. And so for me, that was that completion of, “Oh, I’m loving who I am. I’m loving who I was.” And it’s all so much different than what I was experiencing before.
Linda Lang:
Beautiful story and a beautiful example of the style of information that we actually get from Spirit. I will say I have had the odd experience of not supposed to be somewhere and being there, like taking a course or whatever, and thinking that I must have some kind of block, or I must have some kind of belief that is shifting me out of resonance.
Jeffrey Allen:
Do you want to do a little exercise with that right now, just for people listening? It’s just, it’s just popping in. So, so everybody just tune in for a moment. So just take a deep breath and close your eyes, and as you tune in, just notice What’s been coming up for you as we’re having this discussion with Linda and I? So where are, let’s say, 2 or 3 places where you feel a pull? I should be doing this, or I shouldn’t be doing that. And this isn’t a negative thing. This can be something exciting that you’re excited about. And just notice a few of those things. Okay, let it be easy. And then just pick one of them and just ask really simply, is this mine? And maybe ask it 2 or 3 times.
Is this mine? Is this mine? Is this mine? And if it’s not yours, just say, ah, interesting. Just kind of like put it to the side and then ask the next thing. Uh, is this one mine? Is this mine? Is this mine? And then just your own pace, just keep exploring whatever’s there with you, asking if it’s yours or not yours, until you find one that really feels like you. Maybe you’ve already found it. And sometimes that, yes, it’s mine, can come with a little uncertainty. That’s okay too. And then for this thing that’s yours, what you want to do is just bring it front and center. Let a little bit of light shine down on it from above.
And just for this moment, let that thing and all the, all the ideas that are yours just sort of shine and expand and brighten. And just imagine stepping one step forward into that energy. All right, that’s it. Really simple.
Linda Lang:
That’s probably what I love about your energy work, Jeffrey, is that it’s simple but really powerful as well. It’s not some real complicated process. It’s very clear. So it’s beautiful. Thank you.
Jeffrey Allen:
Yeah, you’re welcome. Yeah, because what, what we were doing there that I, I didn’t say ahead of time is notice we didn’t do anything with the things that if it doesn’t feel like mine, I don’t really have to do anything. I just sort of like look for the next thing. Just like I was saying with the intuition, if you’re getting, if you’re getting something that doesn’t feel right to you, just ask again. And, uh, it can be that simple. Now, one thing I would say though, if you’re tuning in with your intuition, Something you mentioned actually, that if it feels like you’re getting inconsistent answers or you feel like your intuition’s broken, remember that sometimes the answer isn’t available now. A good example, this, I see this a lot in relationships. So… right? And intuition’s often somewhere in the middle because life is always somewhere in the middle, right?
Linda Lang:
Brilliant. I think that the intuition can be that it’s not clear right now. Because things also can change, right? And we do expect it to be kind of black and white, even though there’s a lot of gray everywhere, really.
Jeffrey Allen:
Yeah, yeah. And, and things change over time. So the thing that’s perfect for me today, I might do it every day for a year or two and then realize, oh, this isn’t perfect for me anymore. It got me to where I wanted to get with that. I used that energy or that tool or that food or whatever it is. In a way that now I’m ready for something else. That’s totally okay too. Yeah.
Linda Lang:
And what would you have to say about actually interpreting the guidance? Like, it’s great if you are clairaudient, you hear very direct communications. Sometimes people who are clairvoyant get symbols and they don’t really know what it means. Or maybe people feel things in their body. Sometimes it’s clear, sometimes it’s not clear.
Jeffrey Allen:
Yeah, I would say that one, you want to really honor the way that you receive information. So it’s, uh, I forget sometimes when I’m telling stories, especially I’m talking about things I heard from my guides, you know, I, I spent a lot of time practicing that, you know, years and years, day after day, tuning in, talking to guides, talking to people who’ve passed away and so on. And so of course I became skilled at it. Anything you practice a lot, you’re going to get better at, right? But, uh, at the beginning when I started, I couldn’t hear anything. I just wanted to. I felt like I couldn’t see anything even though I wanted to. And what really helped was noticing, oh, what, what is coming in clearly? What do I feel comfortable with? Even if it’s something simple, even if you like doing muscle testing or just asking, is it yes or is it no? You know, just, you want to lean into whatever is, is working well for you and know that that’s, you know, that’s going to develop and everything else will open too. As you practice.
Because the one thing that you need to get better is practice. And if you get discouraged and think you can’t do it, you’re not going to practice because you’re going to feel bad, right? You know, another, another thing I tell people early on, anybody who’s in this space, is pick things that are not so charged, right? So if, you know, I want to tune in with my intuition, and so I pick the most emotionally charged, feels like life or death thing that I need to ask about, Those are the hardest things for everybody to get answers to, right? Because all the charge, all the energy around it, all our thoughts and beliefs and, and hopes and fears and everything.
So pick some things that are easy, right? I’m at the grocery store. Let’s see if I can guess which line is going to be faster. You know, I’m at the post office. I’m, I’m driving down the street. Let’s see if I can tune in and feel which way is going to be slower or faster. Just play with it. Have fun. Be curious. Don’t make it— Like, I need this answer or I’m in trouble. You know, spend some time using your intuition on fun stuff. That, that’s where you’re going to get the easiest, most validating practice.
Linda Lang:
Be as little children, right?
Jeffrey Allen:
Yeah, curious, not serious.
Linda Lang:
Exactly. And I always say that if you’re having trouble discerning, you can always ask more questions, right?
Jeffrey Allen:
Yeah, of course. Sometimes the answer isn’t available now. And that’s okay. Doesn’t mean your intuition doesn’t work. So yeah, ask, ask more questions, ask different questions. If you don’t like the answer you got, keep asking. Yeah, perfect.
Linda Lang:
And I’m going to suspect that people who have profound spiritual experiences maybe might also misunderstand that experience or have interpreted it— I want to say incorrectly, but maybe incompletely, maybe.
Jeffrey Allen:
Yeah, yeah, that’s very common. I’d say both, uh, the incomplete part is usually our understanding. So if we got— Even if we got a book or even a piece of paper that just told us the, the truth of exactly who we are, why we’re here, what’s next, even if we had that in our hand, our understanding of it would be incomplete. If we read that same page a year later, 10 years later, it would mean something different to us. We’d say, ah, now I understand that that whole first paragraph, I had it backwards. But now I can see that because even that backwards state that I had it in was enough for me to grow and change and to lean in in a way that brought me different insights. Now I see it. Now I see it from this perspective instead of this perspective.
So it’s very easy that, you know, it’s not just easy, it’s normal that our understanding of the information we get is incomplete. And, and that’s okay. I’d say the, the kind of bigger danger, the more confusing thing though, is that we over-interpret, that we add to it. So we take like, you know, this very simple message that we received and we think, oh, that means this, which also means that, which means I should do that, which means this person’s good and that one’s bad. And, you know, I mean, and sort of we, we run with it, right? We use it to validate our, our belief system instead of using it to, you know, kind of highlight the things in our belief system where we can expand and grow deeper and mature. Both of those happen. And just before I forget, I also want to speak to— You mentioned some people are getting information, or maybe it’s just a symbol, or it’s, you know, for me, numbers were really big. Just, you know, I’ve got a degree in mathematics, I love numbers.
And so Even now, that’s very common. I’ll look at my phone and I’ll say, oh, it’s 8 o’clock and it’s, uh, 27 degrees out. Oh, it’s also August 27th. Oh, interesting, right? So I’ll, I’ll see these little matching numbers. And early on, I wanted to get a book and find out what these meant. And then over the years, what I realized is, ah, this is just my higher self, my guides talking to me in a language that I enjoy, because they’ll use any way they can to get through to us because the veil is somewhat thick, right? So, so, uh, my guides know that I love numbers. So if I look at my phone and it says 333, I light up a little bit naturally. I’m like, ah, that’s kind of cool.
But it doesn’t have any more meaning to me. What it, what it means is if I’m seeing a lot of that, I feel like, oh, I’m, I’m listening to the universe. I’m I’m aligned right now, things are moving my way. I don’t look for a specific— Something more detailed in that message. Just like it’s a hello, it’s a spiritual hello. And so if you can receive it on that level, even if there’s no, no deeper meaning for you, it still feels really good. It feels validating and helpful. Yep.
Linda Lang:
So Jeffrey, you started with sensing energy. Is that how it worked for you?
Jeffrey Allen:
Yeah, let’s see. I started, I started having experiences initially. So I had some, I had some experiences I couldn’t explain, whereas like seeing light around somebody or having experienced my dreams, just things that were outside the norm for me and outside what I believed to be true. And they were infrequent. It wasn’t like I always saw light around somebody, you know, just one time was enough for me to say, all right, something unusual happened there. So for me at that time, it was like my experiences and my beliefs aren’t matching. So, you know, kind of it’s natural for me at that time to say, oh, so which one’s right, my experience or my beliefs? And pretty quickly I was like, well, my experience happened, so that feels very real. What about my beliefs? Where did I get those? No idea.
Right. My parents, something I learned in school, a book I read. All this is hearsay. All my beliefs are basically hearsay. And I’m like, all right, so maybe I’m just going to just let those go and I’m going to focus on these experiences. And I’m kind of an adventurous spirit, so I’m like, I want to know more. Are there other unusual things that I can find out? You know, a lot of you are like this. You’ve explored different, uh, you know, taken classes in energy healing or intuition and so on.
So I just started leaning into it. Just to find out what’s out there. It wasn’t a deep spiritual quest for me. It was basically, I want to understand the experience I’m having and find out, like, if I have these superpowers, I want to use them, right? I want to turn them on, right? And so that’s kind of where it started for me. But, uh, once I got into school, for a while I was in that phase where it was something other people did. So I’d read a— I would read a book. This is, you know, pre-internet days, right? So we actually had books we picked up and read. And I don’t know if anybody remembers that.
And, so I’d read the book and I was like, wow, these— There’s these amazing people called channelers who have this special skill they can do and bring these messages through. Oh, and there’s these amazing people who have intuition, and there’s these amazing people who do healing work. And but it was other people, right? And then I found a school where I could go and I could start practicing with other people that were also learning and started to realize, oh wow, these, these are tools. These are skills that every person has. These are human abilities. They’re not superhuman abilities. Everybody has intuition. Everybody can channel energy.
Everybody can do healing. These are normal things. But like everything, if you never practiced it or never thought about it, it’ll be kind of dormant and quiet. But if you start practicing, start leaning into it, you can open those up. And so for me, it was, it was just this fun of self-discovery. Probably that’s why I didn’t feel too deflated when I couldn’t see things. I just thought, oh, I hope it comes in the future. You know, I’m inspired by the guy next to me who can see so clearly in class, and I do feel a little intimidated because he sees stuff and I’m not seeing anything.
But I don’t know, it’s inspiring, right? Because the, the guy I’m thinking about, he was, uh, just a normal person. He had his day job. He just painted houses. You know, he wasn’t like, uh, a professional psychic. He was like me. He was just somebody saying, hey, maybe there’s some cool stuff out here. I want to learn it. And it’s like a side hobby, right? And, uh, over time it just, it just expanded and expanded, expanded because I was, I was practicing it in daily life.
You know, that part of me that could get obsessed was just like, I’m just going to keep trying over and over. I’m going to, like I said, I’m going to see if there’s which way to get to work. I’m going to, I’m going to check out the lines at the supermarket. I’m going to look for a parking spot. I’m just going to see if I’m just going to try everything and see if you know what, what sticks. And over time, a little more validation, a little more validation. I didn’t even realize it, but I was growing up. Energetically into a state where I could sense more and more and more over time.
Linda Lang:
I think that energy of curiosity really opens doors. I found it really interesting that the painter could see energy because he’s obviously kind of hardwired because he’s a painter, right? He’s using his vision in his daily work. You were a mathematician, so You receive messages in numbers. And I just think it’s really interesting that our bodies and our psyche already know, we just need our conscious mind to catch up.
Jeffrey Allen:
Yeah, that’s perfect. You know, I’ve probably told that story so many times, and I never caught that insight. Yeah, thank you. But you’re right, the intuition speaks to us in our language. Right? So somebody that’s really versed in the details of color and form and visual things, That is going to be easier for them. For me, I’m a talker. I love talking. And, and so yeah, I found that, oh, I can talk to my guides really easily.
And they talk back. Oh, okay, great. That happens to be my, my skill. But yeah, you find your skill, and it’ll just come in. Just don’t, don’t feel discouraged that you’re not like somebody else. That’s actually not important at all.
Linda Lang:
I’m a good listener. So I think that’s probably on that talking line, right? I often will have things that pop in, and it’s so delicious and exciting and awe-inspiring that it makes your life so much more fun, I think.
Jeffrey Allen:
Yeah. And that’s, you know, that’s the place to come from. Like, this is a fun part of the journey. It’s, it’s adding some excitement to my life. And I’m just playing. I’m just enjoying. That’s a space we can always grow in and always enjoy, even when we’re not growing. We don’t need all the, like, let’s make it into a business, let’s be professional.
That’s okay if it goes that way, that’s no problem. But like, I never asked mine to go that way. And people ask me, I’m like, no, I’ll never teach. I don’t want to teach. Right? But years later, I found myself teaching, you know, because that energy was flowing through me. So I was cautious rather than aspirational in that sense. And it served me well.
Linda Lang:
So it’s not all free will.
Jeffrey Allen:
Yeah.
Linda Lang:
Because there are some maybe destiny choices that we can make on, on our path. I mean, I suppose we can always like say no and really refuse them, and maybe our life kind of turns out not as much fun and not as evolved. But it is interesting that we have these I don’t know if you want to call them gifts, or if you want to call them purpose or destiny that we come across on our path. And more often than not, they kind of work out without our conscious planning of them.
Jeffrey Allen:
Yeah, I like what you said, without our conscious planning, because I spent a lot of time when I was in that exploratory phase of looking at what happens before we’re born, what happens after we die, just kind of a natural place to explore. And one thing that I noticed in myself and just doing, you know, thousands of readings for other people is that before we’re born, we do make a plan, but it’s, it’s not somebody else making the plan for us, right? So we make a plan, and I like to say that it’s, it’s written in pencil. I think one of my teachers told me that. Remember, your purpose is written in pencil, and you wrote it. So it’s okay during your life to like edit a little bit and change it, but there is a plan there if you want to follow it, and things are naturally kind of cascading in that direction.
But the free will part comes in where you can say, “Ah, I know, I know that that was on my path, but this is kind of exciting too. I’m going to expand my path, or I’m going to change,” and totally okay too. Really, we’re, we’re in a very unusual place here. We, we do have complete freedom to do whatever we want, even though we have a plan. In case we’re not, uh, thinking it through once we get here.
Linda Lang:
And we have help too.
Jeffrey Allen:
Yeah.
Linda Lang:
Have you ever felt like you were like way off your path or had some kind of, you know, message from your guides to help steer you back?
Jeffrey Allen:
Yeah, good question. Definitely. So there have been a few times where I’ve had big resets. And what it was for me is that I’m good at creating to a clear vision. So if I have an idea, whether it’s conscious or unconscious of who I should be or how the world should work, I’m good at like, moving toward that and making that happen. And early on, I noticed it was— I was going in 7-year cycles. So first I just kind of, I lived in the US, so I kind of created the American dream. So I had the job, I had the degree, I had the relationship, I had a house, I had, you know, like all the things I was supposed to create.
And then at some point, I, I sort of noticed— I never created this checklist intentionally, but somehow I noticed, oh, all the things I was supposed to do, I’ve done. Why does it feel like kind of like nothing? I don’t feel this fantastic sense of success or whatever. And I realized, oh, it’s because it wasn’t my dream. Good job creating this, you know, but this doesn’t have much to do with me. And that was really hard realization because I loved a lot of the things in that life in that picture. But I thought, okay, well, who do I want to be next? But instead of really tuning in, I kind of grabbed something that— Like, here’s a person I aspire to be. I like that other person. You know, one of these cycles was saying, oh, I, I really admire my teachers that know about intuition and healing, and like my, my spiritual teachers, I really admire them.
So I spent some time trying to become like them, right? It wasn’t conscious, but at some point I realized Okay, again, good job, you know, 7 years invested there, but I’m pretending that I’m somebody else. And who I am is, is wonderful. I don’t need to phrase things the way my teacher did them. I don’t need to be just like that. I don’t need to be so spiritual. I can be a real person grounded in daily life that enjoys using energy work and that likes looking within and tuning in. I can be a deep person without being, um, that character that I thought a deep person would look like. Right.
And so, you know, that’s happened several times for me, and I anticipate it probably will keep happening. I’ll continue going through phases or going through realizations where I notice, ah, this part of my identity is something I manufactured so I would like myself better, or I thought other people would like that better. But now I’m kind of feeling a little bit closed. You know, that part of me is like, I’m ready to let it go and show some other parts that I I was hiding because I thought I wouldn’t like them or other people wouldn’t like them. And so, you know, starting to expand and expand and expand. This is a good thing, you know, to have this continued growth and expansion.
Linda Lang:
We do tend to go in cycles and keep finding more and more and more out about ourselves, right?
Jeffrey Allen:
Yeah. One thing I learned from Hisami, my wife, was that because she’s got a really different perspective, she doesn’t have that analytical part. So she’s just looking at the energy and observing what everybody else is doing. And she pointed something out one time. She said it’s actually the reason why we made the Spirit Mind Training together. And she said almost all people on a spiritual path get to a certain point where there’s, you know, like, I’ve, I’ve got a clear vision of who I want to be, and I’ve sort of— My values are for helping people or going within. I’m not so focused on the outside world, and I’ve changed my actions so they line up with that. I feel like I’m, you know, on my path and I’m doing the things that I believe are, are, are good or righteous or feel good and so on.
But that righteousness is in there too, right? And so in, in this, this energy— And when she pointed it out, it’s like, oh yeah, I really have that myself. It’s easy to say, because I’m meditating every day, other people should be too. And if they’re not, I’m better than them, or I’m better than who I was when I wasn’t doing it. And she said, that’s the hardest place right now for people to get past, is this idea that it should be a certain way. And you can find it when we start to get self-righteous. You know, it can be about, I’m eating a certain way, other people aren’t, shame on them. You know, or shame on me when I don’t eat the way I think I’m supposed to, you know. Or I’m, I’m not exercising the way I should, or, you know, all these things.
When you find those little pieces of judgment, those are places to go, okay, this is a key for me. This is something I can I can smile at, soften a bit. Just today I can let it go a little bit. Because that’s, that’s where most of us get stuck. You know, even, even when we grow spiritually.
Linda Lang:
Because we think we’re right.
Jeffrey Allen:
Yeah.
Linda Lang:
So some things we are still growing and evolving, probably most things. But I think maybe there are some fundamental perceptions that we have that maybe are kind of like off, like maybe they trip us up because we don’t fundamentally know who we are, even as light beings, or who we are as a person, because we look outside of ourselves to see what other people are doing and how much we would like to be like them.
Jeffrey Allen:
Yeah, and I think, I think you’re right on in that You actually said the answer at the same time is, you know, if we’re looking outside ourselves, then the obvious change there would be, oh, let’s look within. So just notice that that’s, that’s step one in the Spirit Mind Training with Hisami and I is like, okay, just start asking, what, what do I really want? It sounds a little selfish at first. What do I want? What do I want? What do I want?
But what’s happening there is, you know, especially for me, I’ve never really thought about that. I just thought what can I do to make other people happy? You know, like maybe when I was a child, it was probably, what does mom want? Right? You know, or what does dad want? You know, but as an adult, it was, you know, what do other people want from me? And if I do those things, people give me validation, say I’m fantastic. But I didn’t really think, what do I actually want? It just wasn’t anywhere in my belief system.
And when I started asking it, at first it felt greedy, but then I noticed, oh, that’s how you find Your path, you have to know yourself, right? You have to look within. So all these things are really simple to say, but it’s, uh, it’s more challenging to practice because in real life, you know, we’re swimming in that field of all of our emotions, all of our belief systems, and everybody else. And so it does help sometimes.
I think that’s why meditation helps, is to take some time, sit down, quiet the noise, and just go within and just spend a little time with yourself. It doesn’t have to be any particular structure. Just, I like to pick something that I enjoy. So if there’s a little meditation or practice that is fun for you, do that one. Do it over and over and over and over. Don’t worry about, uh, the thing you think you should be doing. Do the one that’s fun, because that’s one you’ll continue with, and that’ll keep you looking in, keep you growing.
Linda Lang:
It’s our own North Star built in, right?
Jeffrey Allen:
Yep.
Linda Lang:
And of course, Jeffrey, there’s so much talk these days about ascension and how much life is changing, society, everything. Do you have any words of wisdom for our listeners about all the changes that are at our feet?
Jeffrey Allen:
Yeah, I would say that a couple of things. One, I would say that it’s not optional. So right now everybody is moving into a more refined energy. And so the easiest way to make a difficult life for yourself is to cling to the old ways, to cling to your success that you had before. You know, if you did something for 10 or 20 years and it was very successful for you, either financially or emotionally or however, you’re gonna want to cling to that thing and keep doing it. But just notice when it’s not really working anymore, And just, you know, thank it for all the time it did serve you and then let it go, right? Because the energy is shifting and it’s not optional. And so when things start getting rough and it feels like, oh, I’m— Things aren’t flowing as well as they did before, like, oh no, actually that’s not true. You’re not flowing as well as before because before you learned how to row the boat this way.
And now we put the boat aside and we’re in the next part where we’re walking or riding a bike, right? So like knowing how to row the boat’s not helping you. Stop rowing, right? Start pedaling, right? Or whatever. It is, you know, just you need to adapt to what’s happening now. Because we’re all moving to that higher state, and the main thing that we need to do is just sort of get out of resistance, let it happen. We don’t have to understand it. We don’t have to make a plan and so on. The best thing I could offer is if somebody wants to go deeper is the training with my wife Hisami, the Spirit Mind Training, because that’s exactly what it’s about. It’s talking about how there’s a new energy on the planet.
How is it affecting us? What are the phases that is kind of pushing us all through? Where do we usually get stuck? What are the simplest practices for some of the things I’ve shared here for, for tuning in and getting unstuck? And then where, where is this going? What can I anticipate feeling along the way? Because change isn’t always just, look, another beautiful thing, another beautiful experience. Change is a mix. Change is like, “Oh, here’s the, here’s the thing I’m going to struggle with so that I can break it loose, and then I can get to the next thing that’s really wonderful and feels good,” right? So it helps to see all the signposts along the way, like, oh, I’m I am progressing. I can see that because I’m challenged right here. Oh, that’s great. That’s a challenge over here. That’s, that’s before I was challenged over here. I’ve changed, right? And I know some tools to let that go and like kind of flow into the next, next phase.
So that’s, that’s the biggest thing I can, I can give to help people there.
Linda Lang:
I love again how gentle and kind you were to your spirit. Oh, I’m having a hardship here, but I used to have it over here. So look at me, I’ve, I’ve come this far. I think that’s beautiful.
Jeffrey Allen:
Yeah.
Linda Lang:
Thank you, Jeffrey, for being my guest today. Where can we send people who would like to know more about your work?
Jeffrey Allen:
Yeah, I would suggest go to spiritmind.com because all the things we talked about today are kind of around that, that same feeling and the same intention, the same energy that we created that program about. And so you can find out more about the work Hisami and I are doing together.
