How do you support yourself when life is challenging?

We all go through challenges.  When you have those times in your life, how do you handle it?  Some people stick their head in the sand and hope things will get better, some get lost inside the emotion, and others try to think and think and think their way through it. But none of these things are very effective.

Energy medicine can give you new options.  By letting go of patterns and limiting beliefs, emotional baggage and old stories, you open to new ways solutions.  New ways to respond, instead of react, or to shift and transform completely.

It is not always an easy thing to do when you are in the middle of it, and if we don’t have help or find the support we need.

I’ve got a couple of quick tips you can use on your own if you find yourself in a challenging situation…. whether you are angry, sad or in fear.

  • Breathe deeply.  Do not underestimate the power of your breath. Be present with your breath. Take deep full breaths.  Breathing this way actually processes emotion very effectively.  A short, shallow, upper chest breathing cycle will keep you in a state of anxiety.
  • Stay present with your body sensations. Don’t let your mind run away on its own. Like a mindfulness meditation, being very present in the moment slows down emotional and mental reactions. It creates space, and allows you to respond from a more balanced state.
  • Tapping on meridian points can help release intensity. Tapping below the notch of the collarbone, on the side of one hand, or on the cheekbone below the eye will help move anxiety or stress and increase your ability to breathe deeply.  Simply focus on the emotion or discomfort in your body as you tap. If the unconscious brings up a memory or another emotion, that is a good thing.  You can shift your attention to that as you tap.
  • Try tapping from side to side on the upper chest, breathing deeply, to process intense emotions.

If you find that you need extra help, that you are not able to move things on your own, or you notice a pattern being repeated, it’s time to get some help.

The last thing you want to do is bury the emotion. It will come back at some point, and often with a vengeance. Whenever anyone overreacts, you can be sure there is “old baggage” underneath, adding to the intensity.

And remember, an energy tune up is always great too! It’s a bit like going to the spa, only not just for your physical body. Treating yourself with kindness and compassion in itself is very healing.

    Oh Linda thank you.
I practice mindful breathing techniques regularly – but always forget tapping.

    Thank you for the reminder.

I showed it to my daughter and she found the under eye tapping useful! Really relaxed her
